d School tombos. Galle and Matara
There was no separate "Scholarchale vergadering" or School
Board at Matara; so the Board at Galle supervised the schools in the Matara
district too, and all reports and files were deposited at Galle.
The school tombos are entered here in alphabetical order of
the names of the schools under the two districts. A detailed report on the
maintenance of the school tombos appears in the annexes to the compendium from
Galle and Matara in
no. 2766, page 221.
The school tombos are all undated. Most of them have
continued to be maintained during the British period, so that they belong to
the period of the 18th and the early 19th centuries.
